Performance Car Insurance Tips

There are a few good reasons why car insurance quotes for performance cars are so much more expensive. For starters, the speed of a performance car easily tops that of a standard car. So, the potential to have an accident on that basis is a lot greater. Speed is synonymous with accidents because it is responsible for accidents on a daily basis. Going at higher speeds on the road gives you much less control of the car and thus less ability to avoid collisions.

Another knock on effect that driving at higher speeds has is an increased likelihood of some sort of legal retribution. No matter what kind of car you happen to drive, if you are caught speeding by the police themselves or a speed camera then your car insurance premiums will go up as a matter of course.

With a performance car, insurers could refuse you cover if you have even three points on your license, let alone a criminal conviction.

Alongside acceleration and top speed, how expensive each car is to fix is taken to account when you obtain a performance insurance quote. This undoubtedly contributes to your car insurance premium as well. If parts are expensive then the insurer will have to pay out more if you do get into an accident to have it fixed. As such, your premiums will reflect that.

There are things you can do to reduce your premium though, the first of which is clocking up fewer miles year after year. The less you are on the road, the less likely you are to have an accident!

Also, improving the security of your car will lower the car insurance quotes that you are given in relation to your car. Performance cars are more likely to be stolen, whether for kicks or for parts, and so having a secure garage will lower your premium slightly, as will having a working car alarm.

Ultimately, performance car insurance will be more expensive than standard car insurance, no matter how you dress it up, but obtaining quotes from both specialists and general providers to compare will give you a better idea of what is out there and where you can save money.
